Hi Everyone! I started this meetup because there are so many books I want to read, and I think that discussing them with others will make it more fun, challenging, and fulfilling. My academic background is in Philosophy and Anthropology . . . but there is so much more to discover! This is a meetup for people who love learning and thinking about the world around them: sociology, history, philosophy, evolution, primatology, cognitive science, cultural studies, biographies, political science, curre …

A book discussion group for members and friends of the GLBT community. Although the focus here is on reading and discussing books of specific interest to the community, we will read books from other genres, as well. We'll meet on the first Friday of every month to discuss our current selection and select a book for the following month. We'll also schedule occasional MeetUps at museums, concert venues, and restaurants. Whatever strikes our collective fancy.

We decided to combine two of our favorite activities--reading books and watching documentaries--to form a new fun book club for women in their mid 20s and 30s. Each month we will read a book and meet at a restaurant related to the setting of the book to discuss. Within the month, we will also watch a documentary related to some aspect of the book (e.g. culture, country, religion, etc.). We are excited to get this group started and to meet lots of fun new people!! A few ground rules for our gr …

Couldn't remember the last time I attended a gathering for people who wanted to discuss a book that focuses on spirituality. We have met once already and set our intention to share, support and learn from each other as we read different books focusing on how to develop our own personal spiritual practices and beliefs. If you're interested in listening, sharing, reading, learning, all or some of the above, join us twice a month at Kava Yoga in Long Beach! $5 per session per person.
Do you love reading as much as I do? Do you often find yourself finishing a great book and at a loss for not having someone with whom to share the experience? Do you love great literature? Do you miss the student experience of reading a book and discussing the deeper meaning and implications with a group? If this sounds like you, join my book club! We will meet once a month to discuss our latest selection. I am open to any and all suggestions. Note that we meet monthly in member's homes whi …
If you want a book club where we pick a book, have an outlined discussion and only talk about the book, this is not it! Most BOOK clubs are of the "You must read this specific book to hang out with us" variety. Our club, on the other hand, uses whichever title we've picked as more of a jumping-off point and we end up discussing a whole slew of different books, authors, and genres. Sometimes, the subject just goes into an off the wall place. You never know what we end up talking about or doing. T …

Open Minds is a book club where we will read books concerning "non-ordinary" topics and discuss what we think. Materialists? Spiritualists? Just plain confused? All are welcome to share their ideas and thoughts. Is there anyone out there?
This club is about reading and discussing science, horror and fantasy fiction, old and new. We are looking for members interested in a wide variety of books within these genres.
We read a variety of books. Come for the book discussion, stay for the food and people!

A group for those who find reading is a joy. A group where one can read and discuss lesbian, gay and christian authors believing in the right to love who we may and love God as well.

Lovers of the mystical and metaphysical, and those mildly curious are welcome to join! There are various topics that fall under mystical and metaphysical interests. Together we can choose books that teach us about the spiritual and the magical in our world and beyond. The idea is to meet monthly to discuss a book, topic, or chapters of a book. We welcome even those who didn't read or didn't finish. Books are our springboard for information and conversation. Members of this book club are encourag …

Sick Minds is not your traditional/original book club. No romance novels, best sellers, Oprah's list or tear jerking books allowed. This book club will be reading bizarre and entertaining books that are also humorous and sometimes considered disturbing to the common folk. Death: A Life by George Pendle is one example. It is a humor book written in a memoir style about Death. One of my sons helped me name the group after I was trying to define a sick mind. He actually did something sick that I …
I decided to start this group through Meetup to recruit people from the local area who are interested in reading and discussing good books. The purpose of the group is to meet once or twice each month for friendly, but lively conversations about books, (fiction and non-fiction,) plays, poems or otherwise that group members have recommend. We might even throw in a movie now and again. The group will be based in Redondo Beach but people from further away are welcome. The group is open to men and w …

Come join a fun and diverse group of HB and surrounding area locals to discuss group-selected books. We've got great view point, age, and profession diversity. We could use more gender diversity though! Newcomers are always welcome. Check out the message board to see what kind of books we read.

Hi, ln our club we love discussing books and their film adaptations. After we've read the selected book, we get together to watch the movie on the big screen or on DVD), then we hang out and discuss both over dinner, tea, coffee or drinks. There are always plenty of opinions when a group has both read a book and watched the movie, and your (respectfully presented) opinion is welcome! The purpose of this club is not only to get motivated into reading, but also to build a strong friendship relatio …

Meet kindred book lovers in a local Meetup Book Club! Fiction or non-fiction, paperback or hardcover, you?ll read a new book every 8 weeks. We meet every 8 weeks in different locations around Los Angeles. At this time there is not a permenat location for our Book Club. We don't have a particular format on the books we read. This Book Club Meetup is open to everyone, that is interested in getting together and discussing books. The only thing that I ask as an organizer. If for you to be prepar …
The idea of this group is to establish a community of writers that can learn from eachother on many different levels. Whether this is through critique groups, free writing, reading, talking, etc. I hope that this group has something for everyone. This group welcomes writers of all levels. This is based on the philosophy that we never really stop learning. No matter your walk of life, we all have some knowledge to barter. Or pilfer, as book bandits do (no stealing or plagerism is insinuated w …

Like books? Like to talk about life, happiness, and the occasional paper-cut from books? (or bruised toe for you kindle and nook readers.) This is the group for you. We are a diverse group of race, age, and gender who have one come together for one common interest - books. Yet in exploring the stories or history together, we discover we have so much more in common as well. We don't follow one genre or one author but try to find new areas to branch into each month. We also don't break the stories …
